Your society wouldn't. In fact, truth be told, I would rather our society be closer to yours. The problem here is that there is a concept of firearm ownership being a protected right, one that many more militant gun owners would die to protect. That scares me. I would furthermore be scared of any serious attempt by our government to stamp out gun ownership - it would lead to social ills that would make the status quo look like paradise.
We have voluntary clubs here (often referred to as rod and gun clubs) that promote sport and game hunting and where they exist responsible ownership likely does as well. But I've yet to see a highly visible urban gun club in any of the cities I've lived in, or people otherwise promoting firearms for sport.
Our crime tends to extend from two major sources - marginalization of social classes (be they race, wealth, etc.), and cultural norms that dictate beliefs in socially sanctioned violence. Certainly nothing prevents all crime, but eliminating bigotry and fighting the stereotypes that permit violence to go unchecked would be a very good start here.
